Meet Abigayle, a freshman majoring in Bioengineering and a WIE Ambassador!

Q&A with Abigayle:

Why did you become a WIE Ambassador? It can be very overwhelming to go into a major that is still male dominated, so I think it is incredibly important to have connections with other women in STEM majors to build community and always have a support group. I never want anyone to be discouraged to go into STEM fields because of the gender disparity, and better supporting women in engineering is one of the best ways to get more women in engineering and close that disparity.

What is your favorite part about being a WIE Ambassador? My favorite part is meeting other women who are passionate about engineering and other STEM-related fields, and sharing our love for science and math. I love hearing about the aspects of science I am not super invested in and seeing the love that others have for those topics.

What advice do you have for prospective students?Involve yourself in groups and/or events you are genuinely passionate about rather than the ones everyone is doing– you'll build more meaningful connections with others.
