Campus and Community Involvement

Madison is a Chancellor's Scholar, James Scholar, and Kirkwood Scholar. She serves as the Secretary and Social Media Chair for the Honors Student Council within the Campus Honors Program and is a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honors Society. Madison also works as a campus-wide Orientation Leader and a Resident Advisor for Graduate and Upper Division Housing. In the fall, she will be teaching a section of ENG 100.

Being a Part of the WIE Community

Madison enjoys having the opportunity to connect with future engineers. “I love inspiring and working with future women students who are interested in engineering. These women have the same questions and doubts that I had when I was their age, so it is easy to relate to them and reassure them to follow their passions. Watching new students build their community and succeed in engineering truly warms my heart,” she says. For Madison, the idea of providing support for new students is a very rewarding part of her involvement with WIE.

Being a WIE Orientation Mentor

Although Madison is unable to attend in-person orientation, she still shared some advice for new students. She says, “Focus on being in the moment. It’s completely human to feel excited, nervous, homesick, and fascinated all at once. Remember that everyone experiences these emotions, so concentrate on building connections.” She believes it is important to keep an open mind and accept the array of emotions that come with beginning a new chapter. She encourages new students to not let those emotions get the best of them and to enjoy every part of the orientation experience.
